Amyloidosis

Amyloidosis is a rare condition characterized by the abnormal accumulation of amyloid proteins in various organs and tissues, which can interfere with normal organ function. These proteins, which misfold and clump together, can deposit in organs like the heart, kidneys, liver, and nervous system, leading to a range of symptoms depending on the affected area. Common signs include fatigue, swelling, unexplained weight loss, and organ dysfunction. There are different types of amyloidosis, including primary (AL), secondary (AA), and hereditary forms, each with distinct causes and treatments. Early diagnosis and management are crucial, as amyloidosis can lead to severe complications, including organ failure. Treatments may involve chemotherapy, organ transplantation, or medications aimed at reducing amyloid production and improving organ function.
